Does anyone check this community anymore? Could we actually tackle a discussion?

Let's give it a shot. So, what's your general location in New York City?
Do you go out often? If so, where do you like to go?

New York City fuck-up this summer? Let's get fucked up.

If you could change one thing about the area you reside in, what would it be?
What about the MTA? Favorite and least favorite train?

This place seems pretty dead but I just found out that you can get tickets for the "band bench" on Jimmy Fallon, which has a separate ticket pool from the regular audience.  He gets some good guests so if you're in NYC and want some free music and on-air TV time, check it out: http://www.latenightwithjimmyfallon.com/band-bench/

This week they have Ted Leo, The National, Vampire Weekend, The XX, Broken Bells...yeah I'd pretty much request tickets for every night!

It's now been mentioned. People said they're interested.

I'm thinking May or something, what do you guys think?
When will you knuckle-heads be around?

Alternatively, what's something you recently overheard?
or post pictures you've taken of cool shit recently.

I feel like this community should be more active (especially with what seems like more and more indiefucks moving to New York City) than it actually is.

I'll probably be in Brooklyn tomorrow night for my friend's birthday,
unfortunately it will be after this event takes place.

Hey if you live in New York City, tell us where in and where you usually hang out.

Sunday! Sunday!! SUNDAY!!! [July 17th 2008 at 5:15 pm]

[ mood | chipper ]

Alright, big weekend coming up. But, by sunday you should all have recovered from The Dark Knight.

I got 2 events on one big day.
First, the party:

Summerstage is free, all you gotta do is show up. I will be there, probably having more fun than you.

Second, the afterparty:

At Santo's Party House. I have never been there, but if Mishka is sponsoring it, trust it is going to be SERIOUS. The Mad Decent DJs play a MEAN set, and you really don't want to miss, out.
5 Bucks at the door, free with RSVP.

The WHOLE day could be free kids.
Step up.

Holla at me.

Fuck yes.

[April 27th 2008 at 5:20 am]

So I just got a fucking amazing apartment in brooklyn and I'm looking into internet and cable for it, and I was wondering what do you guys use?

The Comcast Triple Play seems really sweet. 99 bucks a month for internet, cable television, and internet phone? Yes please.

I heard verizon is kind of shitty and fios is a joke.

I'm New New New...did I mention New? [March 29th 2008 at 3:47 pm]

[ mood | amused ]

So let me start of introducing myself:

Hi I'm Doris! Yes I know you are going through the shock of hearing such an odd name being used for a young vibrant cooky girl, but sadly so, that is my name. ANYHOO! I'm brand spankingly new to NY! I joined this community to find other cool and intresting people to talk to and meet.

SO if you want to hit me up with some friendship I would not mind at all!!

ps: I live in astoria, queens...so if any of you live in/ or around there, hit me up even more!!!

quite simply,

[ mood | awake ]

So, just putting it out there, Down the Hatch has dollar beers every tuesday night. From like 7pm to like 4am. It is a fun night out. I will be there, probably with a bunch of my goons. If any of you interested, let me know, it should be the shit. Usually is. When the beer is a dollar, how do you NOT have a good time?

THIS SATURDAY @ NOON! [November 25th 2007 at 5:04 pm]

[ mood | bouncy ]

THE RACHEL TRACHTENBERG (of the Trachtenberg Family Slideshow Players) MORNING SHOW!!

Sat. Dec. 1st @ 12 pm (noon) @ THE GREEN ROOM
45 Bleecker St @ Lafayette
6 to Bleecker, B/D/F/V to Broadway-Lafayette, R/W to Prince

Tina and Jason (Mom and Dad) take a back seat on this one and let Rachel, their 13-year daughter (and drummer of the TFSP) boldly lead the show. It's a one-hour journey adapted from her real-life experiences in the endlessly creative community she's raised in. The RTMS is an inspiring show full of live music accompanied by felt board stories, handmade puppets, audience sing-alongs, a weather forecast, interactive arts and crafts, environmental messages, and cooking segments, all on a 60's retro D-I-Y set. The show will also feature guest appearances by some of Rachel's older friends: local artists and performers who stop by to share their own talents along the way. There's an overall theme here: encouraging young people to think outside the box. Each member of the audience will be supplied with their own goody bag of art supplies so they can participate in the interactive parts of the show…and there are many, so be prepared to get creative!

Video Preview!

Ages 2 and up!

Open Mic Night! [October 29th 2007 at 8:59 pm]

Looking for something to do tomorrow night? I'm running an OPEN MIC NIGHT at Mezzo Mezzo (a lounge in Astoria). It's every Tuesday at 7:30pm.

Everyone is welcome to participate in open mic night or just listen! IT'S FREE! Bring your stringed instrument, microphones, keyboards and small amplifiers to Mezzo Mezzo at 31-29 Ditmars Blvd. (Take the N, W or Q19A.)

There is some equipment there already, I'm working on donating some of my own to make it a more enjoyable experience. Feel free to bring your own stuff to use and / or share with other performers.

Leave a comment if you have any questions.

I plan on setting some ground rules like no distortion. (There's a chill restaurant downstairs.) Just a good time grooving in front of people in a nice warm atmosphere with a full bar, full dinner and appetizer menus.

This place is great and I am excited about getting this going, so please come down and show off your talent, or just hang out and listen!

Dax Riggs in NYC [September 27th 2007 at 10:30 pm]

Dax just released a new album on Fat Possum records and is playing two shows at the mercury lounge on 10/4 and 10/5. The album is relaxing and incredibly smooth, enough so that i think i'm getting tickets for the friday show. Is anyone else going?

Manchester Orchestra @ Radio City [September 19th 2007 at 2:33 pm]

Manchester Orchestra are opening for the Kings of Leon tonight at Radio city, and i was wondering if anyone is going? They just released their critically acclaimed LP "I'm like a virgin losing a child" and are not to be missed live.

[September 19th 2007 at 2:02 am]

Anyone hit up the show last night? The band was absolutely fantastic and played songs reaching through all of their material.
